The Boulder Creek Branch Library on West Park Avenue

The Boulder Creek branch is up on West Park Avenue, off the main run of Highway 9. On a Saturday morning there's a craft circle going, somebody's picking up a hold, and a couple of people are just sitting. All of it is free, which is most of what needs saying about why a branch matters in a town this size.

Hours and where it is

  • Address: 13390 West Park Avenue, Boulder Creek, CA 95006
  • Phone: 831-427-7703
  • Monday to Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: closed

It's one of ten branches of Santa Cruz Public Libraries, so a card works valley-wide and holds can travel between branches.

What runs every week

Two of the branch's programs are weekly through the fall, and both are aimed squarely at the under-fives and whoever brought them.

Toddler and Preschool Storytime runs Wednesdays at 11 a.m. starting in September: stories, songs, and a simple craft, held outdoors or indoors depending on the weather.

Discovery Zone Playgroup runs Fridays, 11 a.m. to noon, also from September. It's drop-in free play for young children with an adult along, with toys for gross motor skills and a chance to practice being around other kids. Arrival and departure times are flexible, which is the detail that makes it usable with a toddler.

Community Crafters meets Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon, and it's the one for grown-ups: learn a new craft or bring the project you've been meaning to finish and work on it alongside other people. It's been running weekly since August.

What runs monthly

The rest of the calendar follows a monthly rhythm. On the current schedule:

  • Boulder Creek Book Group, third Thursday, 11 a.m. to noon. Registration is required, and you can join in person or by Zoom.
  • Mobile Health Clinic, fourth Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Write Now! Writing Group, last Saturday, 3 to 4 p.m.

Those patterns come from the dates currently on the calendar rather than from a standing rule, so check our events calendar for the actual date before you plan around one.

One-off events worth watching for

The branch also books talks and drop-in sessions that don't repeat. Coming up: a Quilting with Friends session on September 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., no registration needed, bring your own supplies. And on September 19, 1 to 2 p.m., a Firewise talk on the neighborhood program and the home ignition zone approach to hardening a house, for adults 18 and over.

That last one is worth flagging for anyone who moved here recently. See our wildfire evacuation guide and the late summer wildfire checklist for what to do in the meantime.

Everything the branch has scheduled appears on our events calendar alongside the rest of what's happening in town.

For families

Between storytime, the playgroup, and the Saturday craft circle, the library carries a real share of what there is for small children in Boulder Creek, and all of it is free. See kids' activities in and around Boulder Creek for the full picture, a day with kids in Boulder Creek for how to build a morning around it, and free resources in Boulder Creek for what else costs nothing.
