Editorial Standards & Business Directory Policies

About Boulder Creek Local

Boulder Creek Local is an independent local publication and community resource operated by Boulder Creek Local LLC. We gather practical information about life in Boulder Creek, California, and the surrounding San Lorenzo Valley: local businesses and services, events, community resources, conditions, and local history.

The project grew from a local resident's experience of finding essential information scattered across websites, social posts, and word of mouth. Our aim is to make that information easier to find and keep current.

Editorial independence and attribution

We choose coverage for its usefulness to local readers. Payment, association membership, and interview participation don't determine whether a business belongs in the directory or whether we correct an error.

We distinguish what a source told us from what we independently established. Direct quotations must come from a documented interview, written response, or clearly attributed published source. We don't invent interviews, quotations, or a business owner's approval.

Independently compiled directory

Directory entries bring together public factual information about businesses and organizations serving the area. Sources include business websites, official business social accounts, public records, responsible agencies, and information provided directly by a business.

A listing doesn't establish that its owner submitted or approved it. It doesn't imply endorsement, sponsorship, partnership, or affiliation with Boulder Creek Local. A business doesn't need to pay, join a business association, or agree to an interview to be listed.

Listing verification dates describe when information was checked. They aren't a guarantee of quality, safety, availability, or a business's current circumstances.

Business Spotlights

Business Spotlights are free, voluntary editorial features based on a direct interview or documented substantive participation by an owner or authorized representative. A business may decline an invitation. Participation doesn't create a sponsorship or imply endorsement of everything on this site.

Declining an interview doesn't prevent an independently compiled directory entry or independently researched coverage. We label those forms of coverage separately.

Business Overviews and other coverage

Business Overviews are independently researched articles. They may draw on public business information, published reporting, records, and other attributed sources. That label doesn't imply a direct interview or owner approval. When quoting an earlier publication, we identify the source rather than presenting the quotation as something said to us.

Local Guides bring together practical information about multiple businesses, services, or places. Local History covers documented people, places, and events from the past. Community News covers local events, organizations, and developments. A business appearing in any of these articles isn't automatically a Business Spotlight.

Corrections, updates, and removal requests

Email hello@bouldercreeklocal.com, or use Contact & Submit, to request a correction, update, or removal. For a request that doesn't fit a listing form, choose the general message option or email us.

Please include:

  • The page or listing URL and business name.
  • The information you want corrected, updated, or removed, and why.
  • A first-party source or other supporting information, when available.
  • Your connection to the business or material and a way to follow up.

We review requests in good faith, check the available evidence, and may ask for clarification or confirmation that someone represents the business. We give safety, privacy, and rights concerns priority. We may correct, update, remove, or retain material after review and explain the decision to the requester.

A directory removal request and a request to remove an independently reported article are different decisions. Requesting removal doesn't guarantee that accurate reporting or important public-resource information will be deleted. Please don't send private identification or sensitive personal information unless we've discussed a secure way to handle it.

Sources and changing information

We prefer the source responsible for the information: a business for its services, an organizer for an event, or an agency for official conditions and instructions. We also use attributed reporting, records, and historical sources where appropriate. We retain supporting research internally; articles may link to sources or identify them in the text.

Hours, prices, menus, availability, and conditions can change after publication. Confirm time-sensitive details directly with the business, organizer, or responsible agency. Missing data never means conditions are safe or that an alert has ended. BCL isn't an emergency alert service; follow official instructions and call 911 for emergencies.

A free community resource

Boulder Creek Local is a free community resource. We don't run advertising or charge readers or businesses to use the site, appear in the directory, or participate in a Business Spotlight.

Historical research, images, and contributors

Historical reporting draws on records, archives, published research, and contributions from people with local knowledge. Our standard is to credit contributors and identify sources where their work is used. Historical interpretation can change as better evidence becomes available.

Access to a photograph, book, scan, or website doesn't by itself establish permission to reproduce it. Before reproducing source material, we require a rights check for the intended use. Private research copies must remain separate from material cleared for public sharing. Contact us about missing credit, an attribution error, or a rights concern.

Working alongside community organizations

BCL is independently operated and isn't an official channel of other local organizations. We aim to complement their work by linking to responsible sources, sharing useful community information, and remaining open to collaboration. Each organization controls its own programs, membership, and communications.

Contact and policy updates

Questions and requests go to hello@bouldercreeklocal.com or Contact & Submit. Sending a correction or message doesn't subscribe you to the Local Letter. See Terms & Privacy for information about submissions and personal information. We update this policy as our work changes.
