El Rey Leon: The Mexican Food Truck Parked on Central Avenue
El Rey Leon is a food truck with a home. It sets up at 12890 Central Avenue in Boulder Creek on set days each week, with outdoor seating on the lot and a following that knows the schedule.
What it is, and how it runs
Counter service, outside seating, Mexican food. You order at the truck, and you eat at a table on the lot rather than in a dining room. In summer that's most of the appeal. In a February downpour it's the reason Taqueria Los Gallos, a sit-down taqueria on the same street, is the other half of the town's Mexican answer.
The kitchen runs the same hours six days a week: 11 to 3, then a break, then 4 to 7, Monday through Saturday. It's closed Sunday.
One thing worth knowing before you order: call about allergies rather than relying on any posted description.

El Rey Leon is one of the few kitchens in Boulder Creek that posts Monday hours at all, which matters in a town where most of the dining rooms close Monday and Tuesday. If you're looking for dinner at the start of the week, this and the markets are the short list.
