Kitten Kornher Rescue: The Kittens in the Corner Window

There's a corner in downtown Boulder Creek where the window has kittens in it. That's the whole landmark, and it works: people who can't remember the address remember the window.

The corner is Highway 9 and Forest Street, and the rescue is Kitten Kornher Rescue. The name is the family's, not a play on "corner." Jeanette Kornher runs it.

What it is

Kitten Kornher Rescue is a nonprofit, not a shop. Its stated purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, stray, and at-risk kittens, and it's a partner in the Best Friends Animal Society network. It became a 501(c)(3) in December 2024, which is the change that lets it issue tax-deductible receipts for donations.

The work is more than housing kittens until someone takes one. Reporting on the rescue describes a partnership with Project Purr's spay/neuter program for feral cats, a microchip program aimed at reuniting lost cats with their owners, and taking in pregnant mothers so they have somewhere safe to give birth. Boulder Creek Veterinary Clinic is the veterinary partner.

The storefront it shares

The same address is Boulder Creek Glass. The San Lorenzo Valley Post reported in 2022 that the glass business has been at it since 1982, that it passed to John Kornher from his parents, and that he holds a C-17 glazing license. Skylights, doors, showers, windows, and stained-glass work on the one side; kittens on the other.

That's also how the rescue started. The Post's account has Jeanette moving back to Boulder Creek from Pennsylvania with John to take over the glass shop, meeting a feral litter she couldn't walk away from, and going from there.

Donate. Money, since December 2024, is tax-deductible. Cat food and litter have long been left at the store by neighbors, and a January 2026 vet bill over $1,000 is the kind of thing that prompts a fundraising push, so ask what's short this month rather than guessing.
