Stumptown Supply: Boulder Creek History on a Shirt

David Ramos-Beban did not start Stumptown Supply because Boulder Creek needed another shirt with a town name printed across the chest.

He was working extra shifts behind the counter at Redwood Keg to help pay his daughter's college costs. David is a special-education teacher by trade, and the bar work was supposed to be additional income. Then customers began telling stories.

There were stories about the old lumber flume, local feuds, vanished businesses and a drive-in many newer residents had never heard of. Some followed him home. He went digging into them himself, and the research became designs.

Stumptown Supply, established in 2026, turns pieces of San Lorenzo Valley history into apparel. The idea is not simply to commemorate the past. A shirt gives somebody a reason to ask what the image means, which gives the person wearing it a reason to retell the story.

I found the brand on a rack at SWAG and did a double take: the town's own history, wearable. I spend a lot of time in digitized newspapers from the 1880s for the Boulder Creek history database, and most of what is in there never reaches anyone outside an archive. A shirt puts one of those stories on a person walking down Highway 9.

The shirts

Stumptown Supply is a small apparel brand run by David Ramos-Beban, a Boulder Creek special-education teacher. The conversations at Redwood Keg sent him digging into valley stories; the resulting designs turn their names and images into small print runs.

The brand is particular about blanks, specifying 10oz Independent Trading fleece and 6.1oz Comfort Colors tees, and it drops new designs in small batches rather than keeping a full catalog live.
